Well done story about a young drifter looking for roots and getting ensnared in either the Egyptian purgatory or a band of violent, delusional brothers. Could go either way, really (or both). Lisa Henry has quite the massive range of genres she crosses when English Sooooâ¦thereâs an ending. I canât really call it a HEA or even HFN. Seems the reader is left with a relationship based on Stockholm syndrome, borne of desperation for a connection. To a certifiable nutcase, at that. Not even one with a backstory that inspires sympathy. Just Cari Waites Mysterious and a bit unreal, Hapi is a dark romance that had me glued to the book until the last page. This is not the book for those faint of heart read the trigger warnings! but it utterly absorbed me. A mixture of horror with dark, twisted love story, Hapi explores uganda
I wanted to like this book the blurb sounded interesting but no it wasn't what I expected. 1. Questionable consent 2. Physical abuse 3. Stockholm syndrome (the author try to pass this off as love and affection but it falls flat) 4. I still don't even Lisa Henry, writing here as Cari Waites, writes a good story. A good dark story. The atmosphere of Hapi was perfection: An potential Egyptian deity of flooding and water, and breath. Set in Nth Qld during ongoing rain, you feel the moisture on you, the wet, and the kind you Cari Waites Jayden is a mess his whole life has been one misfortune after another He has existed but never truly lived Now it seems he never will I'm not spoiling this but I felt as confused at the end as Jayden did in the middle It can't be real right? Obviously, if you don't like dark romances (even though this isn't really a romance) this book isn't for you. However, even if you do like your books on the the grisly side, as a heads up, there is a bit of a horror element to this. And I don't mean horror ala early Buy for others I love reading Stockholm syndrome type stories, but this one didn't impress me. I'll admit the previous book I'd read from the series was a tough act to follow, at least for me, but this could have been interesting. The couple, and the premise were pretty English
